MODA Contracting delivered the complete roofing package to the historic Power Hall at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. The project combined extensive timber repairs and a modern airtight roof build-up with the sympathetic finish required for an important heritage building.

Scope of works
- Full stripping of the roof back to the existing rafters.
- Inspection and repair of the existing roof timbers.
- Technical development of a fully airtight roof build-up.
- Installation of modern membranes, products and associated detailing.
- New battens, slate roofing and heritage-sensitive finishing details.
- Coordination with the project design and heritage teams.
Delivery and key challenges
The new build-up had to deliver modern airtightness and performance standards without compromising the appearance or character of the historic roof. MODA worked closely with the design and heritage teams to resolve the roof geometry, junctions and material requirements throughout the 18-month programme.
Outcome
The completed roof provides a high-performance, airtight solution while retaining a sympathetic heritage appearance. MODA managed the supply, installation and technical coordination of all roofing works.
